Twice, Amos Decker experienced a life-altering transformation.

On the gridiron, for the first time. The only resident of his birthplace of Burlington to ever play professionally, he was a large, tall athlete. His professional life, however, was cut short before it ever started. He was permanently removed from the field after a severe helmet-to-helmet collision on his first play, which had the unlikely side effect of leaving him with the inability to forget anything.

Nearly twenty years later, we met again at home. In his capacity as a police investigator at the time, Decker returned from a stakeout one evening to discover his wife, daughter, and brother-in-law had been killed.

Decker finds his life imploding around him as his family is shattered, the murderer of his family is as enigmatic as the reason for the crime, and he is unable to forget even the slightest detail of that terrible night. After leaving the police, losing his house, and ending himself on the streets, he picks up occasional private eye gigs.

A guy, however, comes forward to the police and confesses to the killings more than a year later. A tragic incident occurs at the same moment, almost bringing Burlington to its knees. Decker is contacted again to assist with this inquiry. Decker takes use of the opportunity to find out what really transpired that night about his family. He must make use of his amazing skills and bear the responsibilities that come with them in order to discover the shocking truth. He is forced to put up with the memories he would much rather forget. In addition, he could have to provide the greatest sacrifice.
